The new course will help to overcome perhaps the biggest challenge facing health services, that of providing the best possible health care with the resources available. This challenge seems set to increase in the future and methods for the promotion of effective, efficient and equitable services are being sought with renewed vigour. While economic approaches to the planning and management of services are widely recognised to be effective, few health service staff have any formal training in economics. Our new distance learning course offers participants flexibility whilst being as effective as traditional classroom instruction. The course is backed by three seminars. Learning support is available from an assigned personal tutor, the course director and the HERU team of Health Economists. Also supporting the course are new interactive web-based course materials including self-assessment with instant feedback, student discussion area, course calendar and downloadable materials. The course is of potential value to all Health Care Professionals, Health Service Researchers and those working in the Pharmaceutical Industry. 4. Graduate School of America http://www.tgsa.edu 5.
