In 2015, the number of forcibly displaced people across the world was the highest since World War II (UNHCR Global Trends 2016). As global inequalities are largely the sedimentation of colonialism, several mechanisms and expressions of displacement occur alongside racial lines. Displacement has reached an equally unprecedented level also within and nearby urban areas, with slum populations rising exponentially in the last years. RACE-DISPLACEMENT is a network of scholars and researchers interested in relational configurations of racial inequalities, space and mobility, broadly understood. The purpose of this network is to 1. Encourage research on the logics of displacement and banishment that operate at either international or urban scales, and often at intersections of various scales. 2. Share call for papers, book launches, art performances, debates, newspaper articles and any other resource that dissects links between race and displacement. 3. Organize gatherings at conferences of likely-minded collectives and associations. 4. Organize virtual study groups, workshops and similar mutually supportive gathering for early-career researchers. |
